Improving atmospheric CO₂ retrieval based on the collaborative use of Greenhouse gases Monitoring Instrument and Directional Polarimetric Camera sensors on Chinese hyperspectral satellite GF5-02

The Greenhouse Gas Monitoring Instrument (GMI) onboard the Chinese hyperspectral satellite GF5–02 can provide abundant observations of global atmospheric CO2, which plays an important role in climate research. CO2 retrieval precision is key to determining application value GMI. To reduce influence scattering on retrieval, we combined Directional Polarimetric Camera (DPC) data same improve anti-interference ability GMI and ensure its precision. realize reliability feasibility collaborative use DPC, this paper designs pointing registration method based coastline observations, spatial resolution matching cloud screening DPC observations. Combined with supplied spectral aerosol product, coupled bidirectional reflectance distribution function (CBCR) developed for was improved, efficiency products increasing by 27%, from 3.3 ppm 2.7 ppm. Moreover, not only guaranteed GMI’s detect area concentration characteristics, such as significant differences between Northern Southern Hemispheres winter high concentrations urban agglomeration areas caused human activities, but also extended potential monitoring anomalous events, Tonga volcanic eruption.
